2010 Accommodation Sign Up Campaign off to a good start
| << Back to News |
The 2010 FIFA World Cup is less than a thousand days away and FIFA wants to ensure that South Africa has enough accessible accommodation for visiting international soccer fans.
It was for this reason that the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa (TGCSA), The Tourism Enterprise Programme (TEP) and MATCH the only organisation appointed by FIFA to manage accommodation and transport logistics, ticketing and stadium IT requirements for the World CupTM formed a partnership to launch this campaign. The three-tiered campaign consisted of roadshows, training sessions and meetings with stakeholders including accommodation owners, tourism associations and representatives from municipal and provincial governments.
"The objective of the roadshows and training sessions was to engage and receive input and guidance from the stakeholders on their accommodation needs for the 2010 World Cup Soccer event. The response was positive and the 2010 campaign representatives received phenomenal support in the form of sponsorship for meeting venues and media endorsements." said Thembi Kunene, CEO of TGCSA
The campaign kicked off in October 2007 and has proved to be successful so far. The team visited all the host cities in the country to engage with stakeholders and held training sessions and meetings in some of the regions in the first leg of the campaign.
While the sign up team received a good response last year, it was noted that there was still a number of accommodation owners who felt that they don't need to sign the MATCH contract to benefit from the 2010 World Cup event. The challenge for this year is to drive the message that the support offered will be beneficial to accommodation owners beyond the world cup and that it will boost tourism in our country.
The 2010 Accommodation Sign-up Campaign representatives will resume with the campaign again this year by holding meetings and training sessions in the Gauteng, KZN, North West, Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces.
TGCSA, TEP and MATCH have created a website with information and facts on the campaign. Accommodation owners can also download the MATCH contracts that they need to sign to be recognised as FIFA accredited accommodation providers for the 2010 World CupTM soccer event.
