The former Tourism BEE Charter Council has a new name and a new office.
Now known as the Tourism Empowerment Council of South Africa (TECSA), it is situated at Afrifocus House, 93 Protea Road, Chistlehurston, Sandton. It’s telephone number is 011 384 7630 and the fax number 011 384 3167.
TECSA is the tourism industry’s transformation partner and is driving initiatives aimed at implementing Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) in the private sector, in line with the Tourism BEE Charter and Government’s Codes of Good Practice for Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment.
TECSA Interim Executive Director, Beulah Mosupye says the council’s move from Pretoria to Johannesburg was a strategic one. “The bulk of the tourism industry sits in Johannesburg and we are now in a far better position to liaise closely with stakeholders and industry decision makers in our quest to promote transformation in the industry.”
She says although the process of aligning the sector’s charter and the Codes of Good Practice will only be completed later in the year, a number of projects are in place to assist the industry in its transformation initiatives. “These include the BEE Self-Assessment tool, Black Talent, a project aimed at finding suitable people for available positions in tourism and a specific drive to find empowerment partners for companies. Later this year we will award BEE achievers in tourism.”
