Johannesburg - Restaurant waiters in SA can now be insured on a unique personal accident policy that covers them for accidents and death whilst at work. The Restaurateurs' Association of South Africa, RASA, has signed a an exclusive contract with BrokerNet for a unique and tailor-made insurance policy exclusive to all RASA members and their waiters.
The policy protects restaurateurs against possible claims by staff in case of accidents at work. At the same time, waiters will have peace of mind that they are insured for such events.
The policy covers all work-related accidents and injuries, even death, on the premises, as well as while in transit to or from work.
"In general, waiters are rather vulnerable," says Sollie Stols, Director of BrokerNet. "Their wages are low, they have difficult hours of work, and the risk of being injured on duty is reasonably high."
This policy enables restaurants to insure all their waiters collectively on one policy for as little as R27 per waiter per month.
"RASA has been looking for a tailor-made policy with adequate cover for quite some time. BrokerNet researched the matter and then structured this unique policy to suit the very specific needs of the restaurant industry. It is a first for South Africa and provides the industry with incredible peace of mind," Stols says.
RASA is a non-profit organization that was formed to act in the interest of the South African restaurateur and to ensure that there was a lobby and a voice to speak on his or her behalf. In the four years since RASA was formed, the Association has seen its numbers grow to in excess of 1300 restaurateurs as members.
