The Tourism Business Council of South Africa (TBCSA) announced the new members of the Tourism Marketing Levy South Africa (TOMSA) board of directors this morning.
Elected at the 9th TOMSA Annual General Meeting held at the Midrand Conference Centre, the new directors are expected to serve for two years in line with the constitution of the organisation. The new board is made up of the following Rob Williams of the Savoy Hotel, Alan Louw of Tourvest, Sheila Sekitla of the Venue Guest House and Conference Centre, Franco Jordaan of the Court Classique Suite Hotel, Nils Hecksher of Winchester Mansions Hotel, Andre Viljoen of Thompson Travel Group, Janade du Plessis of Southern Sun, Glynis Lello og Gooderson Leisure Corporation and Wayne Duwenage of Avis.
In congratulating the new TOMSA board, TBCSA Board Chairman, Thabiso Tlelai said serving on any board is a challenging task. “I therefore would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation to the outgoing directors and wish them well for the future. I am pleased with the new appointments and believe that these individuals elected are equipped with the relevant skills to take TOMSA to new heights.
Commenting on the election of the new TOMSA Directors, CEO Mmatsatsi Marobe said since its inception in 1999, the TOMSA levy collectors have amassed a staggering R395 million. The levy collectors represent the best in the tourism industry, those business people who understand the bigger picture of tourism and are willing to participate in TOMSA to grow our economy as a country for all to benefit.
TOMSA monies are collected from a variety of role players in the travel and tourism industry (car rental, tour operators and hotels, for example) who take a percent of monies charged to their clients for services rendered and contribute it to TOMSA. The TBCSA manages the funds, which is ultimately injected into South African Tourism’s destination marketing budget.
The chairman of the new board will be announced after the first board meeting which is scheduled for 29th May 2008. |
