Tourism and Marketing
Tourism and Destination Marketing The Tourism industry believes that South African Tourism should be taking the sector's point of view, hands-on knowledge and insight into account when embarking on global and local marketing campaigns to position destination South Africa. Attracting tourists into the country from far flung corners to our local SADC neighbours is vital for our ongoing growth and survival. As the administrators of the TOMSA levy, we have been growing the pot of marketing funds up increasingly every year and the industry currently collects around 10% of the marketing budget for the country through the TOMSA levy. South African Tourism currently market the destination in the following core markets 1. USA 2. UK 3. Germany 4. Italy 5. France 6. Netherlands 7. India 8. China 9. Japan 10. Australia 11. Nigeria 12. Kenya 13. SADC: Botswana, Mozambique, Lesotho and Swaziland 14. Domestic Market In 2007, South African Tourism signed a Memorandum of Understanding in regard to industry's marketing expectations as well as agreeing to the industry providing input into the strategies and plans in June of every year as an ongoing discipline. HAVE YOUR SAY: DO YOU THINK SOUTH AFRICA IS BEING EFFECTIVELY MARKETED AS A TOURISM DESTINATION? WHAT MORE COULD OR SHOULD BE DONE?
